Bharat Forge to develop X86 servers in India

Bharat Forge’s Kalyani Powertrain is teaming up with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics to manufacture X86 servers in India.

The Deets: Bharat Forge, part of the Kalyani Group, specializes in metal components for industries like automotive and aerospace.

The partnership gives Bharat Forge a direct entry into server manufacturing, while Compal brings the tech expertise, overseeing production, assembly, and testing.

With India pushing for local hardware production, this collaboration strengthens domestic supply chains and reduces reliance on imports.

What are X86 servers: these servers are based on the X86 architecture, commonly used in personal computers and servers. These are versatile and cost-effective platforms, making them popular in various industries.

Why Bharat Forge: India is one of the fastest-growing tech and data center hubs, making it an ideal market for server manufacturing. Bharat Forge brings strong industrial and manufacturing capabilities, helping Compal scale production efficiently in the country.

Worth noting: just last month, Kalyani Powertrain’s electronics division launched Made-in-India servers from Pune, signaling its aggressive expansion into the space.

Big picture: in Q1 2021, the servers made up 88.8% of total server revenue, hitting $275.7 million with 39.3% YoY growth.

Bharat Forge’s partnership with Compal signals India’s push for local server manufacturing, reducing dependency on imports.
